Day 3, Sonnet 3

As if these worries paled the night of Death.

As if hearts seared in lovers’ trysts eclipsed

The plunge of sorrow felt when souls have left

This too-brief earth with life upon their lips.

Sweet Autumn slips into cold winter’s grasp

Her leaves arrested e’en in youthful flush.

An ocean’s waves extinguish final gasps

As trembling earth provokes the water’s rush.

The aftershocks of bruisèd hearts remain

Far longer than Death’s stroll across the stage

Life’s players left reciting scripts of pain:

Their hearts bemoan the brevity of age.

Let lungs take air; hold loved ones tight and pray,

Take solace in the life that stirs today.
